Wow Carolyn … I just save this piece you wrote back in November and re read it and it really landed with me.. Having studied in an Atelier and now working to express my own creativity this hit home…….
From your November Blog…. “ Realist painting has its own set of parameters and the myth of mastery, unfortunately, is one of them. We are inclined to value skill and technique over expression. But skill and technique without creativity and personal expression is just more boring art that happens to be well done. We end up with mediocre shows and paintings that have such a narrow range of expectation that everything starts to look alike. When we make judgments, collectively or as individuals, about what is acceptable or not, what is good or not, and what realism is or is not, we end up narrowing the possibilities of what painting is and could be.” A thousand thank you's and you continue to be a source of inspiration.
